My first W-I-P post!

Here's a Work in Progress for you; a sketch and digital painting of one of the characters from my forever-in-development comic Empyreal Fall. Her name is Juneau Winter. Thief, spy, sorceress and mistress to the King.

I'll post the finished painting when it's complete.

Ever the critic (especially when I can't draw for toffee) I'll put my oar in. I prefer the pencil sketch, it has more life, a feeling that you've sketched (a frankly very saucy) someone you've met on your travels, perhaps she was passing by the tavern you've been sat outside enjoying the mid afternoon sun, you strike up a conversation and whip out your sketch pad, she gets this sort of request a lot but she likes the cut of jib and has a twinkle in her eye as you outline her features. I don't get that so much with the coloured in version. :-)

Nick, given the last sentence of the post, I suspect the colored version isn't finished yet.

John, are you going to post a permanent link to this sketchbook on the sidebar of Suburban Tribe?

The painting is a work in progress, and I will post the final version. Soon, I hope.

I agree 100% that the sketch is better. I think that the spontenaiety of quick pencil work has a lot more appeal than a final painting in nearly all cases. That's just my taste/opinion.

But the point of this blog is to force me to draw every darn day and develop my digital painting skills. I want to be paid for serious comic/illustration work and gain a rep for it. I don't want to be giving away free black and white webcomics when I'm 65 while Tim Buckley laughs all the way to the bank as Ctrl-Alt-Del publishes it's 84th Dark Horse hardcover and enters it's 17th year on Cartoon Network.

There will be a permanent link to this blog on the ST side nav. Prolly go up this weekend.

Thanks for commenting, guys :)

I think the d-painting is a much better representation of character Juneau Winter. Narrowing her face and nose and recessing her eyes gives her that "thief, spy, sorceress and mistress to the King" look. Where as the penciled vers, with her broader face, cute little turned up nose, and big eyes give her a Princess, warrior, rebel, vixxen look.
What can I say, I like em both!

BTW
With a name like Juneau Winter, should'nt she wear a brass bra?
;)

Dude, I shit you not, I turned the bodice/armor to Bronze yesterday!

And yeah, I totally rebuilt the face in the coloring process.
